Late Autumn Crickets

The low chirp of late autumn crickets
Calls the cool breeze of late autumn frost,
Putting summer’s heat to rest,
Chilling summer’s last lusts.

The slow chirp of late autumn crickets
Slows more until it just stops
To let silence reign over hardened ground
To let icy snowflakes
Settle on top.
