The Faithful

It snowed today,
It snowed yesterday too,
But it was still Spring
Because the birds that returned
Began to chatter and sing.

Some sounded cheery,
Others just made noise,
Like the great flocks of grackles
Who seemed to rejoice
In being together again,
even though they had to suffer
Through the heavy wet snow.

More arrive each day,
Perch in the trees and wait
For the hard ground to thaw,
To justify their faith.
